Full Version: Christening dates not birth dates

As you go further back into your family history research, you can find that the only dates you have for your ancestors are from church records ie christening dates and burial dates. The sidebar Index view only lists birth dates, so I have long lists of people with blanks next to their names!

Is there any way to list christening dates instead of birth dates?
You can add "Baptism", but this only appears as an added event in the individual's record. If you wish to see the date in the main lists you need to put in the Birth box "bef **-**-****" with the asteriscs being the Baptism dates.
If you are lucky and can view the original Parish Record (eg in the London Parish records on Ancestry or at the local Records Office) the Vicar often wrote in the actual birth date as an additional, though unofficial, item.
