Havi, but I now find that my PC and my ToGo stick have very diffierent information. Having ng done a lot of new research on my RootsMagigToGo memory stick, how do I update my RootsMagic4 on my PC with that information? I thought that opening RootsMagic from the ToGo stick and just backing-up when I close it would automatically update the PC to the latest information. Help me please !!!!!
When I do manage to update the PC, and then do some more work on the PC, do I then have to do something to update the ToGo stick (e.g completely reinstall the ToGo program every time I want to go to a remote computer to do the research), or will it automatically update if it is plugged in to the PC?
Hello.
You have to make sure that you only work on one database at a time, and then transfer to (from) the USB stick before working on that version.
i.e. work on the USB stick while away, but before working on the PC version, update the PC from the USB stick using RM4togo first (or vice versa). You have to remember to transfer the database to the USB stick before going out again. Or just use the USB stick as a backup, transferring after each time you use RM4, so that it's always ready to be used if you're away.
If you open both at different times, without transferring, you'll confuse RM4togo as it will register different versions of the database on PC and USB stick, but won't know which version is the latest. Any data entered in the overwritten version will have to be entered again.

You don't have to reinstall RM4 on the USB stick each time, only the database, unless there's been a program update (as in the latest 4.0.9.3 version).

That sounds fine, but I still don't know HOW to update RM4 from the ToGo stick, or how to download from RM4 to ToGo an updated version. I can't see any icons/menus to help me.
I can understand that one must not work on, and modify, both databases simultaneously, but thought that when I plugged the ToGo back into the PC and opened RM4 from the stick 'pop-up' the newest database would automatically update the older one.
Do I have to open both ToGo and RM4 at the same time and copy/type in all the new details? With the amount of information I have found I might just as well have made hard copy notes! If this is so then ToGo is a big dissappointment? Please convice me that this is not so.
Hi John,
Running the database from the stick will just make changes to the stick version of the data.
The RootsMagic ToGo application must be run from your desktop PC whilst the USB drive is connected. The program has options to move the software or data to or from a USB stick. You should have a short-cut to run the ToGo program on your desktop or start menu.
To re-synchronise your data simply run the software, select the right drive and click Transfer Data.
If you need further help whilst running RootsMagic ToGo, hitting F1 will bring up the context sensitive help system.
