Hi
I want to transfer my database to a memory stick. I made the transfers of the program and of the data file. Then I realised that I had used an old gedcom and that I had a much more recent one. For some reason the software would not let me transfer the new gedcom file
So I deleted everything that was on my memory stick and started again. This time I had to re register Rootsmagic 4 before I could continue, and it tells me that I have all the data files on my memory stick. However when I put the memory stick on to my laptop it cannot find any data files
Hello Dollyann.
Did you just delete the files and folders, or did you format the USB stick, as there could be hidden files that are registering something. As long as there's nothing else on the USB stick, I'd format it, by opening (my) computer, right clicking the USB stick, and then select format.
Open RM4 on your PC with the database that you want and then close the program (you don't have to backup), this will save the latest version of your database.
Open RM4togo and select your USB stick and transfer the program files.
Open RM4togo again, but this time select the database to transfer. Once transferred, this should cure any problems and ensure that the correct database is on there.
Hope this clears any issues. I've never had any problems, and have used RM4togo many times - it's a really handy program!
Nick.
Thanks for that Nick, I thought that I had to transfer a gedcom, silly or what!! I formatted the stick and redid the transfers, using the correct data files this time, works a treat.

Thanks again
