Huh

I have more than 80 family members entered, each with a sequential number appended. That is just what was wanted. However, there are two numbers missing from the sequence and one at least is irritating. Number 16 is not used at all and the person for which the data was intended for it is now numbered 44.

Question: is there any safe way of re-numbering 44 to 16?

BTW - the book about RootsMagic 4 is not helpful on this subject.
Can anybody help, please?
It sounds as if you have deleted no. 16 and re-entered the person again as no. 44, if this is so there isn't any way of re-numbering, but what you can do is to replace the auto generated numbers with your own sequence, go to 'Tools', 'File Options' then over on the right there is a box with 'Number to display after name' click on the 'REFN' option. This number is put in through the 'Add a Fact Option' (under 'R' for Reference number).

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much. Sorry about my delayed reply but my Broadband was not available to me for nearly 24hours v(problems at their end).
I did as you suggested and the original numbering was instantly wiped out - as if they were never there. It will be a bit tedious giving my 80+ entries new REFN's but at least I now have choice. Many thanks and kind regards.
Glad to have been able to help. Did you know that there are two other forums, one is accessed through the Internet button on the tool bar, click on 'Message Boards' the other is in the Mailing List section of Roots Web, they are both predominately American so there is often a time lapse between question and answer but they are very helpful.

Best of Luck with your research.

Margaret,

Thanks again. I am very new to these forums, so, NO, I did not know anything about the other message boards. I will keep them in mind for future use. In the meantime I need to get busy re-numbering the other 70 members in my database.

Kind regards,

Clive (aka ebeevers)

I have been a member of the other boards for a long time, and find the members extremely helpful there. And Bruce (the Roots Magician) sometimes answers himself. Also there is now a lady - Renee - who works for Bruce and responds frequently. Do check their board regularly as well as this one.
